LABOUR LEFT SPEECHLESS – Kay Burley points out Labour under Blair was just as sleazy as today’s government.

As she challenged Labour’s Wes Streeting with a fresh poll on his party’s own records, Sky News presenter Kay Burley shot down the MP’s claims of Tory corruption.

As a discussion about the Conservative Party’s behaviour rages on after a huge U-turn on Owen Paterson’s suspension, the presenter questioned the Labour MP.

After being forced to backtrack after MPs were triple-whipped to vote against an immediate 30-day punishment for the Tory MP for lobbying rules violations, the party has been accused of sleaze.

On the other hand, Wes Streeting’s claims of sleaze were called into doubt by Kay Burley, who presented him with a scathing recent survey regarding Labour’s own record.

Ms Burley explained: “Certainly, the latest opinion polls suggest that this is the sleaziest Government in recent memory.

“The previous sleaziest Government in memory was Tony Blair’s. And that was the last time you guys were in power.”

“I think that’s a bit of a harsh charge, isn’t it?” Mr Streeting expressed astonishment.

The Sky News host retaliated: “That’s what the latest polls suggested. Did you read them at the weekend”

According to the Labour MP, “I must’ve missed that one. But this is the serious point – all of us have a responsibility to uphold standards.

“Ultimately, at the next election, there will be a choice between the kind of leadership you want.

“And I’d much rather have a guy in Number 10 who was director of public prosecutions, was locking up MPs for expenses fraud.

“I want someone of Keir’s integrity leading the country.

Following the vote on Paterson’s suspension, the latest YouGov voting intention survey indicated a three-point dip in Conservative support.
