Though the Home Office has released it’s plans to rewrite maritime law to be able to turn back large ribs sending them back to French waters, while this sounds like progression, the action to turn back the boats will lie solely upon the captain of the Border Force vessel collecting the boat.
The border force has told MP’s that they’ll only turn boats around, sending them back to France, if it’s deemed safe to do so.
The Telegraph reported: “Border Force has told ministers it will be able to deploy “turnarounds” only when they deem them safe to do so.”
This admission throws a spanner in the works for Priti Patel after what she made out to be a certainty is wrapped up in diluting conditions meaning turnarounds will be optional, not a certainty.
Migration Watch has also come out stating this possible rejection of large boats will only see an increase of illegal migrants being put on small unsafe boats heading for Britain.
