After last nights address to the nation from Joe Biden, President Trump hit back. In a single sentence, Trump said: “It’s not that we left Afghanistan. It’s the grossly incompetent way we left!”
Biden highlighted this during his speech when the current US President blamed Trump, the Afghan government and its army for the rapid breakdown of diplomacy.
You can’t blame the Afghan government for fleeing if Biden changed the dates of the agreement, removed support without brokering a deal before the US left Afghanistan.
Before Trump left office, he had an agreement in place with the Taliban calling for a peaceful truce during and after the US exit.
The only aggression shown was from Biden when he moved the dates of when the US would be leaving Afghanistan to 9/11.
Not only was the agreement breached by Joe Biden, but it also gave the Taliban the green light to move into Afghanistan, knowing they couldn’t be stopped.
In a BBC News article back in Feb 2020, Trump said: US troops had been killing terrorists in Afghanistan “by the thousands,” and now it was “time for someone else to do that work and it will be the Taliban, and it could be surrounding countries”.
Trump continued: “I really believe the Taliban wants to do something to show we’re not all wasting time,”
Mr Trump ended. “If bad things happen, we’ll go back with a force like no-one’s ever seen.”
As we can see, Trump went into these negotiations with Strength being a priority. Biden’s approach was mishandled and neglected to acknowledge the severity of the US exit from the region.
What’s your thoughts on this. Who is to blame for this fallout? Is Trump right to call out Biden, or is Biden right to blame Trump, and the Afghanistan for the rapid deterioration. Leave your thoughts in the comment below.
