Sky News was told by Sir Graham Brady, Chairman of the 1922 Committee of backbench Tories, that vaccine passports for domestic usage would be a”massive step and a misguided one”.

He stated that the policy would discriminate against young people, those with medical or ethical reasons not to be vaccinated, and against many ethnic minorities.

“Fundamentally, people’s decision on whether to be vaccinated or not must be a personal decision for them to make based on their own assessment of the benefits and risks.”

Those Tories who Sky News contacted said they believe the prime minister is lying to boost vaccine uptake. Others expressed belief that the government would withdraw any vote on the subject if it was likely they lose.

Peter Bone, a Wellingborough MP, said that he doesn’t believe they would when asked if he believes the government will introduce vaccine passports.

Bone stated that he believes ministers are trying to “nudge” young people to get the vaccine by making it clear that they will require them to be fully vaccinated in order to enter venues such as nightclubs.

He stated that he opposed vaccine passports as they are “identity papers by the backdoor” and could lead to a “two-class society.”
