What Indian variant? Social media companies told by the Indian Government to remove the term “Indian Variant” from their platforms.

Social media companies have been contacted by the Indian Government to remove the term “Indian variant”, saying the term is an entirely false statement.

Confirming this stance from India, the first minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon said she would rename the Indian variant to “April 02” days before the release of this letter.

The letter seen by Britannia News and which German State Media say they’ve seen but not shown in their article states, “It has come to our knowledge that a false statement is being circulated online which implies that an ‘Indian variant’ of coronavirus is spreading across the countries. This is completely FALSE”.

The full letter and link are below.

The Indian government has slammed the posts as “completely false,” with officials concerned that the term “Indian variant” could hurt the country’s reputation.
