Michel Barnier threatens Britains access to energy markets for favoured fishing rights in UK waters

Yet again, the EU plays dirty to get their way. Michel Barnier has said they will use Britains energy demand as leverage to keep Britains fishing waters open for EU fishers.

This bombshell statement came to light after Barnier gave evidence to the Federal Parliament of Belgium’s European Affairs Committee.

In the meeting, Barnier said: “There is in the overall agreement a mirror provision – exactly the same as for fisheries – in the field of energy. “We have introduced a transitional period of five-and-a-half-year of stabilized access by the British to our market.

“After that, every year, we will discuss their access to our electricity market with them, just as they will discuss the access of our fishermen to their waters.”

This makes clear why the Government wasn’t able to fight for Britains fishermen as hard as they could have. Will Britain ever regain back its waters when the French threaten access to their energy markets?

It’s called bribery, U.K. needs to up it’s game on infrastructure investment, and invest massively in domestic manufacturing of the equipment for new power stations, hydro, wind and solar schemes to regain our energy security. Relying on foreign power supply is a disaster that previous governments have sleepwalked into.

It’s becoming more obvious we have to invest in ourselves. We had a great nuclear design with the AGR let’s build some. It is very possible to become less dependent on the EU within the next 5 years if we are willing.
