Besides taking ideas that are currently in place, the Labour Party has no original plans whatsoever on how to stimulate the economy.
Anneliese Dodds Labour’s Shadow Chancellor hit out at the 9.9% fall in UK economy. Anneliese goes around the houses in her statement attacking the Tories on deaths and the economy, but Dodds misses out on one very obvious reason why the economy has shrunk.
If we are in a national lockdown where businesses cannot function to capacity or open at all, isn’t that the most obvious reason why the UK economy is being hit?. Why was that missed out in her statement?
Labour has backed the Tories in everything they’ve done in this lockdown. Yet, they dare to attack the Tories at every opportunity; if blame is to be dished out, Labour should also share that blame and held to account for being an atrocious opposition.
Anneliese Dodds statement read: “These figures confirm that not only has the UK had the worst death toll in Europe, we’ve experiencing the worst economic crisis of any major economy.
“Businesses can’t wait any longer. The Chancellor needs to come forward now with a plan to secure the economy in the months ahead, with support going hand-in-hand with health restrictions.
“We need a smarter furlough scheme that offers certainty beyond April, alongside an extension to the business rates holiday and the vital VAT reduction for hospitality and tourism to give businesses breathing space.
“This crisis has pulled back the curtain on the Conservatives’ insecure economy. We need to rebuild stronger, putting in place the foundations for a better, more secure future.”
