EU Chief Commissioner, Ursula Von Der Leyen has found herself trapped in a massive diplomatic row. Yesterday Channel 4 reported an accident to have deliberately triggered Article 16 with once supporters now calling her actions shambolic.
The run-up to the triggering of article 16 was no accident as alleged. It was a well thought out implemented plan of action from Ursula’s personal team and a group of Commissioners.
Ursula’s team’s plans were drawn up in secret then circulated amongst all the EU commissioners 30 minutes before it was officially published to the world. The commission approved the drawn up plans before implementation.
The only reason for the article’s withdrawal was due to the diplomatic backlash her plans had caused. Her plans united once rivalling parties in Ireland and Northern Ireland who slammed the Chief Commissioners actions.
UVDL plans if not withdrawn would have meant a hard border in Ireland and the ripping up of the Brexit divorce deal which has only been in place for one month. The actions taken by the Chief Commissioner were to attempt to prevent vaccines from crossing the border from Ireland into Northern Ireland.
Michel Barnier was said to have spat his political dummy out after it was revealed the Commission Chief didn’t tell him about the plans after being given a Chief advisory role on the future trade agreement and relations with Britain.
Irish Taoiseach Micheal Martin said people in Ireland were totally “blindsided” by releasing such actions. An official from the EU then told the Financial Times: “It’s doubtful any commissioners read it in full or at all.”
Irish Commissioner and Ursula’s cheerleader Muirhead McGuinness said the actions were not “a good look for the European Commission” but then said that she still supported her as Chief of the Commission.
With this stunt originating from an attempted ban of AstraZeneca vaccines leaving the EU, a top political reporter from Germany news daily Bild took apart the Chief Commissioner labelling her a liar and incompetent: “Von der Leyen started a dispute with the vaccine supplier AstraZeneca, which was supposed to look dare devilish but was just dumb. She has disgraced Europe.
“As Germany’s defence minister, she had already failed miserably in the procurement of helicopters, aircraft and weapons. Angela Merkel ordered her away to the European Commission.
“Just as Europe has been doing for decades with its discarded political personnel: disposed of like nuclear waste in the final repository of Brussels. That is the story that Johnson has told the British again and again. He, the European populist. Now, we agree with him.”
“Worse still, Von der Leyen has either knowingly lied to 447 million Europeans or didn’t know what she was talking about. Both are intolerable.”
