Iain Duncan Smith slammed the EU, saying Britain wants a genuine free trade deal but “the European Union point-blank refuses to Grant it.”

This reaction was after a Spanish minister claimed that the current deal between the UK and EU is like NAFTA (North American free-trade Arrangement).

IDS responded saying: The Spanish Minister said the deal is similar “to the NAFTA the North American free-trade Arrangement, it is not. Not one of them is expected to accept the rulings of the other courts in America.”

“Canada wouldn’t accept that, nor are they going to have to sign up to all the same regulations and stay with those adjudicated if they’re using unfair competition, that would be given to an independent adjudicator.”

“Not run by America, not run by Mexico, not run by Canada. That’s what the UK is asking for. And of course, the European Union point-blank refuses to Grant it.”

IDS also said that the term No Deal is a misnomer, he said we would leave with a deal, but under WTO terms similar to Australia.

IDS said: “I always think this idea of No Deal is a misnomer. We will have a trade deal, It’ll be WTO World Trade Organisation terms what Australia trades with.”

We are being told that by the end of today we should have an outcome on whether a deal will be done or we leave on WTO terms.

No deal/WTO terms is the best deal.
Any deal with the EU would have so many strings that it’d not be worth it.
Let’s leave the negotiating table and make a real go of things.
Let the EU come crawling to us when they realise what they’re losing out on. Then they’ll realise we have the upper hand and won’t be pushing their myopic vindictive terms at us. Let’s agree to meet with them at the end of 2022 for a 2 month discussion on a FTA (Canada style) and if there’s no agreement after those two months, they wait a further 2 years before returning to the table – if there’s still an EU by then.
