This morning Kier held a radio phone-in on LBC, during that call in, a caller pleaded with Kier to seek an extension on top of the transition period which we are currently in.
The caller said: “From my experience with business people, almost all of them want a delay to the Brexit process now, they are already struggling to cope with COVID, and they know the extra stress to Brexit and rules they just don’t know about could kill their businesses.”
The caller then asked the question: “Will you demand a delay to the Brexit process come what may?”
Labour leader Kier Starmer returned by saying: “Well Richard as you know, we’ve left the EU, So the leave remained debate is over the transition period ends at the end of the year. I think a deal could be done and I think that there’s been a lot of distraction from the government, but actually, there are only a few remaining issues and I think That a deal could be done. It’s in the National interest to have a deal, all the businesses i’ve spoken to said that the thing we want most of all is not to delay, but a deal and I think the deal can be done.”
Keir then criticises the Prime Minister saying: “The Prime Minister told us he got an oven-ready deal. My message to him is ‘well get on then and deliver it'”
“Just as a matter of information, there is no vote in Parliament on an extension of the transition period, so the ball is very firmly in the government’s court now.”
Kier then publicly questions the Prime Minister saying: “The Prime Minister, he grumbles on about the deal and has introduced legislation to break international law. The question he really needs to answer is, ‘when he signed the deal that he then used in the election. Did he know what he was signing if he did, Why did he miss sell it'”?
