"EU member states are not proactive when it comes to responding to our requests to remove people under the Dublin regulation. So we have EU member states themselves not following the European Union Dublin regulations." @pritipatel pic.twitter.com/mUdNuEg9YE— Global Vision (@GlobalVision_UK) September 30, 2020
It’s been reported that the Home Secretary Priti Patel made comments saying the Conservatives are “the party of law and order” in Britain. These comments were made in a virtual event organised by the Express newspaper alongside Conservative MP Esther McVey.
Ms Patel was asked about deporting foreign criminals like those involved in child grooming gangs and child trafficking. Ms Patel said: “When it comes to the individuals and perpetrators of dual nationality we want to make sure they are deported for their crimes. I’m afraid in the past not enough of that has taken place.”
During this virtual event, Ms Patel also asked about the migrant invasion on Britains south shores. Ms Patel said: “When it comes to illegal migration, our measures are based on law enforcement, based on working with our security agencies. We have had hundreds of arrests with organised immigration gangs, organised immigration criminals and associates. They are people trafficking, and they are responsible for illegal migration and smuggling people into the UK. Mainly through small boats.”
She continued to explain the EU’s role in this saying: “We have a lot of work taking place with France, Belgium and the Netherlands. We are sending them to EU countries where we have data on them travelling through because the EU are all safe countries who are all signatories of the European Convention of Human Rights and it is right we return people back to those countries.”
With this acknowledgement of the justice system being not fit for purpose as it stands, has Priti Patel now drawn a line in the sand as their baseline to improve the system?
