It’s come to light that the EU wants control over the Channel Tunnel, this demand was injected into the negotiations in August. With this demand comes with extra overreach once again being pushed by the EU. If the EU took over the Channel Tunnel, it would mean the ECJ and Brussels being in sole control over the line and who uses it. This line between Britain and France has been in control of a bilateral agreement between the two countries for decades. However, as with everything, we see with the EU trying once again to isolate Britain.
A spokesperson who spoke to the Sunday Express said: “We have put in place a number of robust measures to ensure critical services continue through the Channel Tunnel at the end of the transition period and are now in discussions with France to agree on long-term arrangements that will give operators long-term certainty.
“Any bilateral agreement must fully respect the UK’s status as an independent sovereign nation – we will never sign up to demands to align with EU laws or be subject to the EU having a say.”
Dover MP Natalie Elphicke said: “Time and again we have seen the French use the Channel Tunnel route to extend French interests and gain commercial advantage.
“This is another blatant French-inspired EU power grab to further French and not British trade interests. We should be resolute in making sure that arrangements on British soil work for us.”
As you can see from the statements above, It seems the EU has been pretending to respect the sovereignty of the UK as it becomes a fully independent nation, while openly attacking and threatening the UK in the hope Britain caves in on fisheries and state aid. Even when the UK defend themselves, the EU then cry wolf to the worlds media stating the UK negotiation team are not playing ball, meaning the UK are rejecting their one-sided approach and Brussels don’t like it.
On Friday, we reported that Dr Liam Fox made it through to round 2 in the selection process to become the next General Director of the World Trade Organisation. However, once again, we are hearing the EU trying to interfere with the process to scupper Britain taking the top job at the WTO. UK Lord Frost was right when he said that the EU is overreaching with their vengeance against the UK while claiming to be friends bursting with solidarity and fairness.
A Whitehall source said: “Liam’s progression through this process is evidence of the global support we can command as a country with a huge reputation for supporting free trade. Whatever the eventual outcome of the nomination, it’s clear the UK doesn’t need EU support to make an impact as an independent nation.”
