New Lib Dem Leader Sir Ed Davey has publicly called out Boris Johnson, saying he should drop the “distractions” on Brexit and focus solely on the Coronavirus Pandemic.
After winning the Leadership election, Ed Davey has said he is on a mission to win back support of the people after his parties “B******s to Brexit’ slogan failed so severely in the last election. The slogan they thought would win hearts and minds, was unable to gain traction. This, in return, lost a massive amount of support meaning the party crashed in votes, losing seats including the parties previous leader Jo Swinson.
Sir Ed is opposed to a No Deal Brexit, stating a deal will be done and this commotion at the minute is window dressing for the orchestrated sigh of relief. Ed Said: The government are trying to “work everyone up into a frenzy”.
With this statement about interacting and reconnecting with the British people, I find it difficult to see how Ed could resell the Lib Dem’s. The reason for the distrust in the Lib Dem’s by the British public was down to them attempting to overturn a democratic election result under the guise of its democratic to do so. No matter what the Lib Dem’s do to salvage their credibility as a party, their brand will always be associated with trying to destroy democracy in the UK.
What’re your thoughts on this? Could you ever back the Lib Dem’s again at the next election? Do you think Ed is right to say Boris should shift focus to coronavirus instead of Brexit? Share your opinions below.
