After negative Nancy Pelosi tried to threaten Britain with a No deal from the US if we don’t play ball and stand by the withdrawal agreement with the EU, a joint press conference was called between UK Foreign Secretary Mr Raab and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
The two sides confirmed that they have been making significant progress in negotiation talks that would see a multi-billion pound deal being signed between the UK and the US providing a “huge opportunity” for jobs and businesses in the UK.
Raab said: “Like Mike, we’re willing on the negotiators, I think there’s a huge opportunity for a win-win deal. We’re confident we can get there.”
Mr Pompeo trashed rumours of the US will block any trade deal because of the Prime Minister’s plans to alter the Brexit withdrawal agreement with the EU.
Mr Pompeo said: “We trust the United Kingdom. I am confident they will get this right.
“We have made clear the importance of the Good Friday Agreement.
“We know the complexities of the situation.
“We have done what we can to provide assistance where we can.
“In the end, this will be a decision for the UK to make, and I have great confidence that they will get this right.”
This trade talk meeting is one of many trade deals that are being lined up with Australia, Canada and New Zealand by the UK International Trade Secretary Liz Truss and UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab. We also had confirmation of a 15 billion pound deal ready with Japan which will kick in from when we leave the EU 31st December 2020.
