Reports from an article in the Sun reveals No10 has plans that would “Double” the British fisherman’s catch post Brexit.
This news from the PM’s office has sparked fury in the EU coastal fishing regions in the EU. France, Ireland and Denmark are said to be particularly upset about these plans as it would hinder the amount they can catch compared to previous years.
With these plans now in the public domain, David Frost is said to have a battle on his hands after EU leaders have said they will fight him tooth and nail to prevent this as the EU are set to lose a third of their fishing fleet due to Britain’s departure.
Though the weeks ahead will be challenging in negotiations, it’s been reported that David Frost is standing strong for Britain rejecting Barnier’s demands for Britain to compromise on their redlines. With the eighth-round of talks starting next week, the EU is extremely fearful of a collapse in negotiations meaning No Deal exit becomes a reality.
An EU source said: “There is no way the EU can agree to this maximalist demand. Absolutely no way.
“Barnier cannot budge while this stays on the table. He would be crucified.”
German ministers also hit back demanding the UK sign up to “at least the status quo”.
French MEP Pierre Karleskind, head of the EU Parliament’s fisheries committee, branded the UK’s plans “unrealistic”.
But the PM’s spokesman retaliated said the EU needed to show “more realism”.
