Illegal migrant wave continues – Several illegal migrant boats have been intercepted by the UK authorities today.

This morning it was reported that 17 illegal migrants were picked up by the French authorities and were took back to France after their boat broke down just off the coast of Calais. Several boats have also made it to Dover and West Sussex through the day today.

BBC Reporter Simone Jones tweeted 3 separate times:

  • 09:28am “At least three boats carrying migrants have been picked up off the Kent coast this morning. The Border Force vessels Searcher and Hunter have been involved.”
  • 12:11pm “17 migrants – including a baby and five children – were picked up by the French authorities and returned to France after their boat broke down in the Channel off Calais this morning
  • 14:23 ‘Six boats carrying migrants have succeeded in reaching the UK – five brought into Dover, one into Winchelsea in East Sussex. Two more boats have been returned to France.”

On Friday 8th May a record number of illegal migrants made it to the UK in one day, 145 illegal migrants that we know of were picked up by the border force in one day. One of the boats were carrying 51 people. On Saturday 9th May a further 82 people’s were picked up. 

Chris Philp, minister for immigration compliance and the courts, said: “We are all working night and day to dismantle and arrest the criminal gangs who trade in people smuggling.”
Since lockdown began on March 23rd due to the coronavirus, sky reports 700 men, women’s and children have been intercepted along the south coast by UK authorities.
