Tony Blair said Boris Johnson’s Government needed a different skillset in dealing with the coronavirus catastrophe. The former Labour leader noticed more experts have been brought in to handle the pandemic. However he received criticism on the internet for speaking out from Mr. Johnson.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme, the former Prime Minister explained: “There has never been a more complicated challenge in Government than that.”
Host Nick Robinson asked: “Does that mean you must in effect reinvent Government.
Are you really saying the character of Authorities is it can’t face something like this you need to be prepared to throw it up in the air and reorganise?”
Mr Blair continued: “That’s exactly what I’m saying. Clearly you have to have the system involved and the system is working flat out.
“I provide this as constructive advice, not criticism and I have huge sympathy for people handling this now but it’s precisely its complexity which you need to make sure each of these regions are coped with the very best way possible.
“I think it needs a different combination of skills.
“I feel that’s the main reason the Government have brought in Lord Dayton.
“It’s clear procuring that and ensuring you’re going to produce that in the united kingdom, it’s not that the skillset ordinary civil servants possess.”
Twitter users were quick to strike out at the Labour leader.
No one, no one would like to hear from Tony Blair.”
Another added: “Tony Blair has just come on Radio 4 Now to tell us all what Mr. Johnson must do be doing in the coming months”
A third person said: “What’s Tony Blair on your programme? He isn’t relevant or do you know something we don’t?”
Mr Blair formerly said, a strategy is necessary to end the lockdown.
As the controversy whined about Boris Johnson’s stance in the lead-up to the pandemic, Mr Blair said Britain was “too slow” in trying to suppress the epidemic of disease compared to other countries.
The ex-PM said the UK had to be “ahead of the curve” as soon as medical and scientific conditions let it emerge in the lockdown to a “new normal”.
