The EU keeps making the point that we in the UK can not have a Canada style trade deal even though they put that promise down in the Nonbinding Political Agreement.
The EU denies the UK a Canada style trade deal whilst demanding the UK adhere to their rules if the UK wants a deal. Boris yesterday quickly slapped that down when he laughed in an interview when asked “will you be committing to a level playing field”? Boris said NO WAY!
Why would the UK adhere to foreign rules, made in a different country and be told to be noncompetitive deeming the UK powerless to seek trade deals with others? Is the EU really that stupid to think that would agree to those terms?
How can the EU take the moral high ground when even they can’t keep to their own political agreement. They themselves even gave the green light for Britain to now charter it’s independent course and that’s why Boris is said if there’s no free-trade deal available by June we will set our way for No Deal.
The EU keeps demanding a level playing field because that is now their only chance of an insurance policy if NO DEAL becomes reality. Boris in the EU UK relationship document which was released yesterday states…
It is a vision of a relationship based on friendly cooperation between sovereign equals, with both parties respecting one another’s legal autonomy and the right to manage their own resources as they see fit. Whatever happens, the Government will not negotiate any arrangement in which the UK does not have control of its own laws and political life. That means that we will not agree to any obligations for our laws to be aligned with the EU’s, or for the EU’s institutions, including the Court of Justice, to have any jurisdiction in the UK.
There is no way the UK will become a rule taker. There is no moral appetite in the U.K. to allow this to happen. Boris has been entrusted by millions of people after promising the U.K. will be leaving the EU in its entirety which enact the vote of 2016 EU referendum.
