OVER 100,000 non British undocumented children estimated to be living in Khans London.

Some 107,000 undocumented under-18s and a further 26,000 undocumented 18- 24-year-olds are living in the capital, Sadiq Khan’s London’s Children and Young People Who Are Not British Citizens report states.

The Home Office stated it”did not recognise that the figures quoted in the report” and insisted that kids may be allowed leave to remain if they have lived in the UK continuously for seven years, or if they’re aged between 18 and 25, and have lived continuously in the UK for half of the lifetime.

The report finds that roughly half of the children of the UK reside in London. Assessing the magnitude of the undocumented people can be hard because of the lack of data, it includes, stating that the report contains a review of analysis along with an analysis of current data to supply an estimate of the number of Londoners that are undocumented.

It warns that the number of undocumented young people residing could rise dramatically if an estimated 350,000 youthful EU nationals are not assisted to secure settled status before Brexit. Khan brands the amount as “a national disgrace” and adds that these children and young people may face difficulties obtaining higher education, healthcare, opening bank account and applying for driving licences, housing and jobs.

. A spokesperson stated:”There are a range of paths and options available for individuals of all ages to regularise their status, including kids who have lived in the united kingdom for most of their lives.

“No citizenship and immigration system can triumph if it excludes this several of the nation’s children and teens from legal status.”

“These children are growing up in limbo instead of being legal citizens in the country they call home. Kamena Dorling, head of policy and public affairs at Coram Children’s Legal Centre, said:”UK citizenship and immigration policy is neglecting an important number of children who’ve grown up in the united kingdom.

“we don’t agree with the belief that leaving the EU will increase the amount of undocumented children. The EU settlement strategy makes it possible for applicants, including children, to use with no identity document whenever there is a reason beyond their control why they can’t acquire one.”

Undocumented folks can incorporate those who arrived in the UK with proper documentation but remained longer than permitted, individuals who arrived in the UK without appropriate documentation, trafficked children, unaccompanied minors whose temporary leave to remain was withdrawn once they reached adulthood and young people born to parents who are themselves undocumented, the analysis, commissioned by Khan and completed at the University of Wolverhampton, says.

Khan said:”It’s a national disgrace that there are hundreds of thousands of young Londoners being denied the opportunity of a secure future in our city and living in constant fear of deportation from the government’s aggressive immigration policies.”
